Self-study guide
Some of the activities need a little preparation before the lessons. These are marked with this icon: . Do these activities in the time leading up to the course, and then quickly re-do them just before each lesson. This will help greatly in ensuring that you get the most from the course.

Student consulting term paper
To start your preparations for the student consulting term paper, do the following:
- Go to this page - Term paper instructions - and carefully read the instructions for the term paper that your are require to write this semester.
- Prepare a title and a short text (maximum 100 words) that does the following:
- briefly outlines your idea for a term paper
- indicates how it relates to your studies and to your current (or future) work
- explains why you have chosen the topic. (The exact of the title can be revised later.)
- Go to the Students forum, log in (you can use the same login details as last semester) and follow the instructions carefully for adding your proposal.
- The deadline for your proposals is 18 August. You will receive feedback on your proposal from your tutor within a day or two.
Academic writing
To review how to express your 'voice' in academic writing, do the following:

Don't let the somewhat old-fashioned design of the page put you off. The content is useful!
- Go through the analysis of the paragraph (i.e., the 'annotations') and decide to what extent the paragraph conforms to the PEEL (or PEAL) format.
- Make a note of your thoughts and any questions you may have so that we can discuss them in our next lesson.
Vocabulary
To help you acquire new business and general vocabulary, do the following:
- Use the word list at the back of your coursebook Career Express (B2) 2nd Edition (page 134). This will be helpful in our lessons, but can also be used to learn the vocabulary in the coursebook.
- Make (or complete, if you've already started) a list of new vocabulary from Unit 11.
- Use your preferred method for learning the new vocabulary (e.g. the Quizlet app, a vocabulary notebook or cards).
Grammar
Use your coursebook - Career Express (B2) 2nd Edition - to do the following:
- Go to page 88, Section 6: Grammar practice, Activity C.
- Think of a real situation, create a timeline and prepare an anecdote using the verb tenses practised in Activity A and Activity B. Be ready to tell your story to a partner in class.
Listening
Use your coursebook - Career Express (B2) 2nd Edition - to do the following:
- Go to page 95, Section 4: Globalization, Activity A.
- Before listening, try to put the events mentioned in the order in which they happened.
- Listen to the recording to check your answers.
- Use the Answer key on page 129 to double-check your answers.
