Grammar review

Use the grammar review and common errors quizzes to help you assess your language strengths and weaknesses so you can build on the former and improve the latter.

Grammar review

Choose the correct option to complete each sentence. Make a note of problem areas and use the explanations to help you improve and make your English a little more accurate.

Error correction

Even the most proficient and fluent speakers of English as a foreign language can make errors without realizing that they are doing so. Sometimes these errors are made so often that they become a natural part of the person’s speech. These are known as fossilized errors. The first step in dealing with this is to become more aware of the errors you may be making without realizing and to have some understanding of why you may be making these errors. One major factor, for example, is the influence of your own first language (your mother tongue).

In the quiz below, there are some examples of common errors. Some relate to grammar and others to vocabulary. Use the quiz to test yourself and develop greater awareness of possible errors you may be making without realizing.

Read the instructions for each question VERY carefully as they can differ from question to question. Make a note of problem areas and use the explanations to help you.
