These are the instructions for the Global Business English (GBE) class presentations.
1
Groups
Form a group of three to prepare and deliver your presentation.
You will receive a group mark for content – 40% of the total. This means that you are collectively responsible for this element of the presentation.
The remaining 60% is based on your individual performance and is divided into delivery (30%) and use of language (30%).
2
Choice of topic
As a group, decide on a business issue or topic in accordance with the following criteria:
The topic must be of interest to each of the presentation group members and needs to be of benefit to the class as a whole.
The topic should be pragmatic and should have practical value that is underpinned by theory.
To practise supporting arguments with empirical evidence, the presentation must include some facts and figures.
PowerPoint or Keynote slides must be used to complement and support what the speakers say. If presenting online, PowerPoint must be used.
The presentation must end with a clear, specific and actionable call to action.
3
Timing
Each speaker needs to speak for 5 minutes. So, if the group consists of 3 speakers, the presentation as a whole should last 15 minutes. Note that points will be deducted from all the group members if
the presentation is significantly longer or shorter than the time limit for the assignment
one of the speakers speaks significantly more or less than the other presenters.
4
Handouts
Each group also needs to produce two handouts for the whole class (hard-copy) and the trainer (PDF as follows:
a Vocabulary handout with a list of new/difficult vocabulary used in the presentation with a German translation for each term. This handout is for the trainer and the other members of the class as a whole
a Further reading list handout with the sources used in the research for the presentation together with suggestions for further reading. Again, this is for the trainer and the other members of the class as a whole.
5
Submission of material
The slides (PPTX or Keynote) and the two handouts (PDF) need to be submitted to the trainer in the formats indicated no later than 1 day before the presentation is scheduled to take place.
6
Topic proposals
As a group, prepare a short text (maximum 100 words) in which you
briefly describe your student consulting presentation topic (there is no need to go into too much detail at this point)
explain the reason(s) why you have chosen the topic and how it will help everyone in the whole class
add a provisional title for your project, which can be revised once you begin your research if necessary.
One group member should add the text and the names of the other group members to the Students forum.
You will receive feedback on your choice of topic and once you have approval you can continue with your preparations
