Understanding native speakers of English can sometimes be a little difficult. One reason for this is that some native speakers make very little effort to make themselves easily understood by speaking more clearly or by moderating the language they use.
One way of coping with this is to learn strategies for taking control of the situation to encourage native speakers to express themselves more intelligibly. Another way of tackling the problem is to learn some of the idiomatic language native speakers often use.
